Abstract: Topological full groups, which is originally introduced by Giordano, Putnam and Skau as an algebraic invariant of orbit equivalence relations, have been playing important roles in geometric group theory by providing many interesting examples. Determining when such groups satisfy certain geometric/analytic properties therefore has attracted a lot of attentions.
In the first talk, we will give a brief review on backgrounds of this class of groups including earlier results on amenability, simplicity, soficity, and LEF-ness for topological full groups.
The brief introduction to the reporter: Ma Xin obtained a doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in 2019 (under the guidance of Professor David Kerr) and is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Memphis. His main research interests include dynamical systems, operator algebra and geometric group theory. He has published multiple papers in mainstream journals such as TAMS, IMRN, ETDS, JFA, and PAMS.
