报告摘要:Finite element methods (FEMs) have been a major tool for solving science and engineering problems modelled by partial differential equations (PDEs).
In addition to accuracy and robustness, preserving physical properties is an important aspect of FEMs. In this talk, we present the novel weak Galerkin FEMs that construct discrete gradient/divergence/curl, etc., at the element level, which provides desired approximation to the classical differential operators in the variational forms. In particular, we focus on the Darcy/elliptical and linear elasticity equations. It will be demonstrated through theoretical analysis and numerical experiments that the WG FEMs respect local mass conservation and are free of Poisson-locking.
报告人简介:Jiangguo Liu is a full professor and PhD supervisor in Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University (USA). He earned a PhD degree from University of South Carolina in 2001 and joined Colorado State University in 2005. His research interests focus on efficient and numerical methods for transport problems in porous media and his research projects have been supported by National Science Foundation. He is an associate editor of Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics and has served SIAM at various positions. Recently he became more interested in interdisciplinary research for drug delivery. He has published 60+ research papers including those on SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, and ACS Applied Nano Materials.
