Abstract: Group theory is the mathematics investigating symmetries, we will show two basic and important symmetries in mathematics where how group theory play its roles.

 

The brief introduction to the reporter: Zhang Jiping is a professor of the School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University, vice director of the Beijing International Mathematics Research Center, director of the Key Laboratory of Mathematics and Its Applications, Ministry of Education, and special professor of the Changjiang Scholars Award Program. His main research field is algebra, and he has made important international academic achievements in the study of finite groups and their modular representations. He served as Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences of Peking University from 1998 to 2008 and vice-chairman of the Chinese Mathematical Association from 2000 to 2007. He was awarded the First China Youth Science and Technology Award, the Fourth China Youth Scientist Award, the Outstanding Youth Award for Seeking Truth, the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Award, and the Chen Jieshen Mathematics Award. He was awarded the titles of "National-level outstanding young and middle-aged experts", "National outstanding scientific and technological workers", "National May 1 Labor Medal" and "Beijing Top Ten Outstanding Young People".
